How to Be Healthy on a Budget

November 18, 2019

Health and fitness are vital to your overall well-being and contribute to your ability to deal with stress. If you are working to overcome credit debts, it can seem as though trying to stay healthy is just an added expense, but the truth is health and fitness rely on effort and good decision making, not money. Let’s look at some ways to maintain positive health habits without bending the budget.

Good Health is Habitual

Much of your general health comes down to habits, both good and bad, whether in the kitchen or out in public. Bad habits are likely to lead to health complications, and good habits can help overcome problems that already exist. Discipline and willpower in your daily life are more valuable than expensive gym memberships and overpriced organic foods. The habits you develop will determine your physical and mental health, so focus on positive living and things that contribute to your future.

It’s All Tied Together

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health and staying mentally healthy will give you the fortitude required to make sound financial decisions. Overcoming credit debts and other stresses can take a real toll on your thought process, so don’t forget to take time to decompress. A walk in a neighborhood park or on a nearby nature trail can go a long way towards maintaining your mental health, and is great for your physical health, too.

Forget the Fees

Health and fitness are enormous industries that exist primarily by getting people to spend money they don’t really need to spend. If you have the desire to get fit, you’ve already overcome one of the major hurdles. Don’t get caught up in so-called “deals” that gyms and fitness centers offer. They are in business to make a profit, not see to it that you stay in shape. They already know most people who sign up never use the membership. That’s why they tend to have such lengthy contracts, to keep you paying long after the novelty has worn off.

Step to It

It’s no great secret that the majority of health and fitness revolves around what you put into your body. Likewise, getting at least 10,000 steps a day is a well-established norm for maintaining a healthy body. If you are busy working multiple jobs or hustling on the side to reduce debt, it can be hard to find time to focus on fitness. Fortunately, getting all those steps in isn’t as hard as it sounds.

Don’t pick the closest parking spot when you have to go somewhere, park farther away and walk. Try to take the stairs whenever that is an option. Learning to enjoy walking and watching what you eat are two of the best things you can do for your health and will improve your mental health and focus as well.
